The Story

The result of over two years of obsession and experimentation by distiller Arnaud Lapointe, Élixir de Charlevoix is an intense, richly layered herbal liqueur with exceptional aromatic depth.

Élixir nods to Green Chartreuse while expressing its own character, inspired by the boreal forests of Québec's Charlevoix region.

Born from Arnaud and co-founder Eli Halliwell's deep connection to Charlevoix and its surrounding regions, Élixir was founded to celebrate and support this pristine, remote landscape and the communities who live and work within it.

We source our ingredients locally whenever possible, working hand-in-hand with growers and foragers to craft liqueurs and spirits that capture the distinctive character of this remarkable place.

Ingredients & Production

Seventy-Four Ingredients

Élixir is made from seventy-four different botanicals—herbs, flowers, buds, barks, roots, and spices—including wormwood, spruce gum, burdock root, tansy, yarrow, Labrador tea, sweet gale, alder pepper, poplar buds, lavender, and nettle. Nearly all the botanicals are sourced from Charlevoix and greater Québec.

Our Process

We macerate sixty-seven botanicals in a neutral grain spirit, which is then distilled in a 900-liter pot still. The distillate is then sweetened and proofed down to 54% ABV. A final maceration with seven additional botanicals adds finishing aromatics and Élixir's beautiful, 100% natural green color.

Tasting Notes

Visual

Dark green with hints of yellow. Color may evolve slightly with time and exposure to light.

Nose

Expressive and layered, with initial notes of perfumed herbs (wormwood, hyssop, thyme, rosemary, yarrow), followed by high notes of tansy and lavender and deeper notes of angelica, spruce resin, alder pepper and poplar buds.

Palate

Powerful yet remarkably balanced. Élixir starts bright and herbal, evoking wildflowers and a cinnamon-like warmth from traveling sweetgrass, leading into a dense mid-palate of licorice root, angelica, wormwood, and yarrow, anchored by deep boreal forest notes of spruce sap, alder pepper, sweet gale and poplar. The texture is velvety without feeling heavy, with the alcohol providing structure and a gentle heat. There's sweetness, but it's restrained.

Finish

Exceptionally long, complex, and evolving. Lingering notes of forest, resinous bitterness, and warming spice fade slowly, leaving an earthy, grounding and deeply satisfying impression.
